Comparing Natural Alternatives To Prescription Drugs

By Elaine Guthrie

It is almost unrecorded fro man to exist an entire lifetime without being ill. Mortal man is prone to illness and accidents thus a lifetime without any form of illness is almost improbable. Since time in memorial man has always been affected by disease and they had their own sources of medication depending on their level of development. In earlier days of mans existence they used herbal medication in order to treat diseases. This trend of use of natural alternatives to prescription drugs is reemerging due to the various advantages this form of medication had.

Modern medication has proved to be fast and effective in terms of treating the set disease, but the flip side of prescribed drugs is the side effects. Many of the prescribed drugs come with side effects that many people do not think about, they range from addictions to headaches and some even lead to formation of other diseases. These side effects are not a common issue among the users of raw medication. This is because natural remedies have no remnants in the body that may cause the side effects.

On a penny for penny comparison alternatives seem to always be cheaper than prescribed medication. An example is the use of exercise to cure depression as compared to using anti-depressant tablets to cure it. The cost of buying the tablets may be not so high but the cost of exercising is free since even a walk is exercise thus the two costs cannot be compared and the natural alternatives seems always cheaper.

In most cases in the modern society people tend to go for prescription medicine this is because of its accuracy to which they treat the ailment but on the other end they tend to overlook the advantages raw drugs offer. We all know that they are from nature but in many instances these remedies not only cure the ailment but also adds more nutrients to the body.

A natural alternative to skin conditions like rashes is the aloe Vera plant. The prescribed drug would be a sulphur based treatment, on one hand aloe Vera does not only treat the rashes but it smoothens the skin and kills bacteria. If the sulphur based treatment would be used the rashes would heal in a burnt like manner since sulphur reacts with the skin in order to treat it thus leaving the burn like scars. This happens in sulphur cases unlike in the aloe Vera despite the fact that both methods heal.

Going natural has an advantage when it comes to dosage. This is because in case one takes an excess of a prescribed drug an overdose is likely to occur and when one takes too little of the drug the desired effect of this drug is not likely to be achieved. This is because prescribed drugs are made for specific purposes and natures, on the other hand natural alternatives rarely have an under dosage or overdose like in the case of prescription medication.

Current medical practitioners are also using natural means to cure and treat, like the use of leaches to suck excess blood during operations is a very common practice.

Currently the number of users of these remedies is slowly rising. This is due to the awakening of people to the advantages of using natural medication.
