The Benefits Colon Cleanse Confers

Detoxification of body systems should be done on a regular basis. The large gut is one of the organs that has to be cleansed regularly. This is either done through irrigation of the gut or by use of products that are either inserted through the rectal route or taken orally. These products can be easily obtained as over the counter drugs from pharmacies. They include herbal teas, magnesium, enzymes, enemas and so on. There are a number of benefits colon cleanse provides.

Irrigation yields the best results. It is usually done by colon hygienists (also known as hydro-therapists). In the process, several gallons of water under low pressure (or gravitational force) are emptied into the gut and then removed by abdominal massage. This is repeated several times so as to empty the large gut. The entire process typically lasts for about one hour. It should not be used in persons with rectal tumors, diverticulitis, severe hemorrhoids or inflammatory bowel disease.

Constipation is mainly caused by indigestion and indigestion is itself worsened by constipation. This vicious cycle leads to accumulation of waste products within the colon and harbors harmful bacterial organisms. The presence of the organisms reduces the absorption of nutrients and hampers the immune function. Regularly cleansing enhance the process of digestion and reduces the incidence of constipation and colonization by bacteria.

The toxins that are contained in food are metabolized and removed from the body by the colon and the liver. In case of constipation and indigestion, there is increased transit time in the gut which in turn increases the chances of precancerous and cancerous conditions. Some of these conditions include cysts, polyps and colon cancer. It is important that these toxins are cleared from the system as soon as possible.

Another important benefit is that of weight loss. Low fiber in foods contribute a great deal to constipation. The waste associated with these foods tends to stay longer within the large gut and getting rid of them is usually very difficult. Satiety feedback mechanisms are suppressed which means that one is more likely to eat more than they need to. Cleansing and increased the amount of fiber in the diet helps to jump start the process of weight loss.

Poor health of the colon has the potential to also affect mental health. A sub optimally functioning gut results in ineffective absorption of vitamins that are needed for concentration. Such an environment affects many cell processes and one will tend to have general body malaise most times.

There are a number of risks that are associated with the process. These include, among others, mineral imbalance, dizziness (due to dehydration), cramps, nausea, depletion of normal flora in the gut and in rare cases, bowel perforation.
